Ingredients

The Creamy Base:

  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened to room temperature.
  • 1 cup sour cream.
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional, for flavor).
  • 1 (8 oz) tub whipped topping (like Cool Whip) or 2 cups of heavy cream, whipped (optional, for a fluffier texture).

The Fruit Mix:

  • 1 (15 oz) can fruit cocktail, thoroughly drained.
  • 1/2 cup maraschino cherries, halved and patted dry.
  • 1 cup mandarin oranges, drained.
  • 1/2 cup fresh grapes (green or red), halved.
  • Optional additions: Chopped pecans or walnuts, or mini marshmallows.

Instructions

  1. Cream the Base: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and powdered sugar together until smooth and creamy.
  2. Combine: Fold in the sour cream and vanilla extract until well blended. If you are using whipped topping, gently fold it in now to keep the mixture light.
  3. Add Fruit: Gently stir in the drained fruit cocktail, cherries, oranges, and grapes. ​Tip: Ensure the fruit is very well-drained and patted dry with a paper towel to prevent the salad from becoming too icy.
