Rich Farmhouse Milk Bread

Ingredients:

  • 3 ½ cups (450g) Bread flour
  • 1 cup (250ml) Whole milk (warm, not hot)
  • 2 tbsp Melted butter
  • 1 tbsp Sugar or honey
  • 2 tsp Instant yeast
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 Egg (for the egg wash to get that golden shine)

Instructions:

  1. The Mix: In a large bowl, whisk the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy. Add the melted butter.
  2. The Dough: Stir in the flour and salt. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it is smooth and no longer sticky.
  3. First Rise: Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Shape: Gently shape the dough into a round boule. Place it on a baking tray. Use a sharp knife to score a simple cross or a star on top.
  5. Second Rise: Cover with a cloth and let it rest for another 30 minutes. Brush the top with a beaten egg for that signature golden crust.
  6. Bake: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes until the top is deeply golden and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
  7. Serve: Wrap it in a clean cloth while cooling to keep the crust soft and tender.
