Ingredients:
- 3 ½ cups (450g) Bread flour
- 1 cup (250ml) Whole milk (warm, not hot)
- 2 tbsp Melted butter
- 1 tbsp Sugar or honey
- 2 tsp Instant yeast
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 Egg (for the egg wash to get that golden shine)
Instructions:
- The Mix: In a large bowl, whisk the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy. Add the melted butter.
- The Dough: Stir in the flour and salt. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it is smooth and no longer sticky.
- First Rise: Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Shape: Gently shape the dough into a round boule. Place it on a baking tray. Use a sharp knife to score a simple cross or a star on top.
- Second Rise: Cover with a cloth and let it rest for another 30 minutes. Brush the top with a beaten egg for that signature golden crust.
- Bake: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes until the top is deeply golden and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
- Serve: Wrap it in a clean cloth while cooling to keep the crust soft and tender.
